Prospect, KY (June 23, 2002) - Victims Assistance of America, Inc (VAA)
-- Hello, I am Martha Steimel, president of a new 501(C)3 non-profit, fighting for victims of the nations #1 crime. Please realize that identity theft is so new that no foundation or philanthropist has our cause allowed for in their mission. This is the nations #1 crime. Its growing by leaps and bounds. Weve been told to expect 10,000 victims calling for help per week. We need everyones help and support. Dont assume that someone else handles this. They Dont!
It is important that grantmakers (foundations and government agencies and corporations alike) be alert and responsive to changing conditions in society and to the changing needs and merit of particular grantseeking organizations. Id like to point out at this time that it has been brought to our attention that identity theft is so new that it has not been allowed for in any funders mission.
After personally enduring a 10 year long problem myself over 6 years ago, Id like to say that its really not new at all. Id like to propose that it is now so bad that we can no longer not address this problem.
