ID THEFT VICTIM STORY
In 1995, at the age of 19, my mother and myself were trying to buy a home together. We were not sure if we were going to get it to begin with because I had only been out of high school and working for 4 months. Our loan officer called us one day and told us that we did not qualify because I had an outstand bill with Norwest Financial in Colorado sence 1991. I explained to her that this must be some sort of mistake because in 1991 I was in the 8th grade and I had never been to Colorado. That same day my mother and myself went to our local Norwest financial office to investigate. The woman there was very nice and she called the office were the account had been opened. The other office said that they had the account with my social security number belonging to a fourty year old man named Eric. Now surely this young woman could tell that I was neighter 40 or a man. Nevertheless I have been dealing with that company ever sence. I am now 28 years old and I have not been able to get my own credit sence. Seven years passed and I wanted to see if it had been written off. It sure was, but as soon as my credit was cleared once again this man used my social to open new accounts. Apperently I owe Sears in Colorado $7,500dlls and Voicestream wireless $3,500dlls for 5 cellular phones. There is much, much more. I did file a police report, had my social flagged with the credit companies, and I even went to get assistance from the social security office as well.( This person was working with my social and had never filed and icome tax. If I had not found that out the IRS would be comming after me by now.) To make things worse, no one believes me. I have creditors that I have never even heard of calling me my house what seems like every five minutes. I have sent them copies of my police report. They do not care. I am very frustrated. Last week I got denied a good job simply because my credit was no good! I have never in my life used my credit because of this. I really need to buy a car, but I have to save the money up for it because no one will sell me one. As a mother of two now, I really need to have MY credit!
